Because every person’s experiences are unique, understanding their challenges requires more than a diagnosis.
Specialized Care for Unique Challenges
At PAASI Family Therapy, we recognize that emotional and psychological challenges affect individuals and families in different ways. Our therapists work with clients experiencing a broad range of concerns, providing personalized treatment that considers each person’s experiences, circumstances, and goals. While we address many mental health and relationship concerns, the following areas reflect our specialized training, advanced education, and clinical expertise.
Trauma, PTSD, and Complex PTSD
Trauma can have lasting effects on emotional well-being, relationships, beliefs, and everyday functioning. Traumatic experiences may involve a single event, repeated exposure to distressing circumstances, or prolonged experiences of abuse, neglect, or instability. The effects of trauma may continue long after the experiences themselves have ended.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop following traumatic events and may involve intrusive memories, avoidance, changes in mood and beliefs, and heightened responses to perceived threats. Complex PTSD (CPTSD) is associated with prolonged or repeated trauma, often involving circumstances in which a person has limited ability to escape. Although these experiences may occur during childhood, complex trauma can develop at any stage of life. CPTSD may also involve difficulties with emotional regulation, self-perception, and relationships.
Our work includes helping individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual abuse, interpersonal violence, and other distressing events. Depending on each client’s needs, treatment may incorporate Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
WET uses a structured writing process to help individuals confront and process traumatic memories while reducing avoidance and trauma-related distress. CPT focuses on identifying and challenging beliefs and interpretations that developed following traumatic experiences, helping clients develop healthier perspectives about themselves, others, and the world. CBT addresses patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress, helping individuals develop practical strategies for managing difficult emotions and responding to everyday challenges. EMDR uses a structured process that incorporates bilateral stimulation to help individuals process traumatic memories and reduce the distress associated with them. IFS explores internal parts, protective patterns, and conflicts that may have developed in response to difficult experiences, fostering greater self-understanding and internal connection. For this reason, PAASI Family Therapy does not believe in applying the same treatment approach to everyone who presents with a particular concern. Instead, we begin by understanding the individual. We explore the experiences and beliefs that may be contributing to distress, identify patterns that interfere with emotional well-being, and consider the therapeutic approaches most appropriate for that person’s needs.
Our goal is to help clients understand the impact of trauma, address the emotional and psychological patterns associated with their experiences, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Relationships and Family Dynamics
Relationships influence how we understand ourselves, communicate with others, and navigate life’s challenges. Difficulties within marriages, partnerships, families, and other meaningful relationships can affect emotional well-being and overall quality of life. Understanding patterns of interaction is often an important part of creating meaningful change.
Our team includes a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor who holds a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. This background supports an approach that considers individuals within the context of their relationships and family systems. We help clients explore communication patterns, resolve conflict, and understand how experiences, beliefs, and family dynamics affect their relationships.
Relationship counseling is not limited to couples or families attending therapy together. Individuals can also benefit from exploring how past experiences and established patterns influence their current connections. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, our goal is to foster greater understanding and support healthier relationships.
Anxiety, Depression, and Stress
Anxiety, depression, and stress are common concerns that can affect emotional well-being, physical health, relationships, and daily functioning. They may occur independently, arise in response to life circumstances, or accompany trauma-related difficulties, including PTSD. Although their experiences differ, individuals may struggle with persistent worry, low mood, emotional exhaustion, disrupted sleep, or difficulty managing everyday demands.
At PAASI Family Therapy, we work with clients to understand the experiences, beliefs, and patterns contributing to their symptoms. Through personalized therapeutic approaches, we help clients develop practical strategies, improve emotional regulation, and address challenges that interfere with their well-being. Our focus is on meaningful, sustainable improvements that reflect each individual’s circumstances and goals.
Whole-Person Wellness
Mental and physical health are closely connected, and difficulties in one area can influence functioning in another. Nutrition, sleep, medical conditions, stress, and other physiological factors may affect emotional well-being, cognitive functioning, and the ability to manage everyday challenges. Recognizing these connections helps us consider the broader picture of a client’s health rather than focusing exclusively on psychological symptoms.
At PAASI Family Therapy, we believe mental health care can benefit from collaboration with other healthcare professionals. When appropriate and with the client’s consent, we coordinate with their physicians and other providers to support a more integrated approach to care. When nutritional concerns warrant additional attention, we may encourage clients to work with a registered dietitian and help them explore a referral if they do not already have one.
Our role is to provide psychotherapy while recognizing the importance of psychological, physiological, and nutritional health. Through personalized treatment and collaboration with qualified professionals, we strive to support each client’s overall well-being.
Veterans and First Responders
Military service and emergency response can involve experiences that create lasting emotional and psychological challenges. Veterans and first responders may encounter trauma, occupational stress, relationship difficulties, and challenges adjusting to changes in their professional or personal lives.
PAASI Family Therapy recognizes the unique experiences associated with service and provides personalized treatment that considers both the individual and the circumstances surrounding their experiences. Our approach may incorporate trauma-focused psychotherapy and neurofeedback as appropriate to the client’s needs. Career Counseling and Professional Development
A fulfilling career involves more than earning a living. Our professional lives can influence our sense of purpose, personal identity, confidence, and overall well-being. Whether someone is entering the workforce, searching for more meaningful work, or seeking professional advancement, understanding their strengths, interests, and aspirations can help them make decisions aligned with their goals.
At PAASI Family Therapy, career counseling combines personal exploration with practical knowledge of business and professional development. We help clients discover their passions, identify career paths that complement their strengths and values, and navigate career changes. For those seeking to advance within their organizations, counseling may also address workplace dynamics, leadership development, professional relationships, and strategies for pursuing opportunities for growth.
Our goal is to help clients make informed decisions, overcome obstacles, and develop the confidence and direction needed to pursue professional opportunities that support both personal fulfillment and long-term success.
Faith-Based Counseling
For many individuals, faith and spirituality play an important role in how they understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges, and find meaning in their experiences. Incorporating personal beliefs into the therapeutic process can provide an additional source of understanding, strength, and support.
At PAASI Family Therapy, we recognize that religious and spiritual beliefs are deeply personal. Although our founder is Christian, her knowledge and understanding of different religious traditions allow her to incorporate a client’s individual faith into the therapeutic process. Through open dialogue about God, spirituality, and religious beliefs, clients have the opportunity to explore how their faith and values influence their emotional well-being, relationships, and personal growth.
Faith-based counseling is always guided by the client’s preferences. We welcome individuals of all religious backgrounds, as well as those who do not identify with a particular faith. Our goal is to provide professional, evidence-based mental health care in an environment where every individual feels respected, understood, and supported.
